This letter is to recommend David Reinecker because of the amazing work he has
done with our dog Rusti. We rescued Rusti (a Lab, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Pit Bull
Mix) a year and a half ago, but after about two or three months began noticing a
significant change in her behavior. She was showing signs of aggression on
walks, when friends and family came to visit and when the mailman or delivery
men came to the door. We knew we had to do something soon - we feared that we
had adopted a ticking time bomb. Having accepted her into our family, paired
with our determination to fulfill our obligation to save a life, letting go of
Rusti was not an option.
Our next step was to find a professional trainer. After an exhaustive search on
the internet and through word of mouth, we narrowed our search down to two
choices: a well-known local trainer-turned-television personality and David
Reinecker. Unsure of which trainer to use, we ultimately ended up asking the
rescue agency from which we adopted Rusti whom they would recommend - they gave
us the name of the television personality, who for these purposes shall remain
nameless.
Once we were finally able to make arrangements with this first trainer (it took
over six weeks to book an appointment), the trainer came to our house for the
first of three sessions. We were amazed at the trainer’s ability to dominate our
dog into submission to the point where she would immediately do whatever she was
told. We were told that we were the problem and that we needed to be the pack
leader (which I believe is true). This trainer demonstrated how we should form
our hand into kind of a claw in order to poke our dog in the neck to simulate a
dog bite. We later learned that this technique can actually give the dog a
mini-stroke.
After this first session, we noticed a slight change in Rusti and were
encouraged by having guidelines to start with proper training. Unfortunately,
the techniques didn’t take hold. Once the trainer was out the door, the dog
training disappeared as well. In fact, Rusti started getting worse. Friends and
family came to the house and we would have to keep Rusti in a crate for fear of
her biting them. We sent her to doggie daycare until the day she attacked
another dog and was evicted. A potential pet sitter came by for an assessment
and suggested that we put Rusti down because of her aggression.
We had two sessions left with the first trainer and even after leaving several
desperate phone messages, this trainer failed to show up for the sessions or
even return our phone calls. Our first trainer completely abandoned us and we
felt utterly hopeless.
We finally called David Reinecker and doing so completely changed our lives from
the very first training session. David’s technique is gentle, yet assertive, and
fits within the parameters of our training capabilities. He gave us workable
training tools to utilize with Rusti that provided dramatic and immediate
results. What’s more, we didn’t have to become ‘dog whisperers” or give her mini
strokes to motivate change in her behavior.
Rusti has responded to David’s behavior modification techniques in ways that we
never thought possible. We now have a new dog in Rusti. Family and friends are
able to visit and she is much more well-behaved – people have commented on how
good she is! We’ve even added a new rescue dog to the family and he and Rusti
are amazing friends.
We know raising dogs, especially rescue dogs, is a lifelong commitment and can
be a lifelong challenge. But with an excellent trainer like David in our corner,
we feel better equipped to handle the special needs of these wonderful, loving
companions.
We give David Reinecker our highest recommendation and would use him again in an
instant should the need ever arise. Working with him has been such a pleasure.
David has given our family much needed relief and our loving dog Rusti a new
lease on life.
